General Policy Statement: - Health & safety
1.The Executive Committee of Firhouse Carmel F.C. regards the promotion of health and safety as a mutual objective for both volunteers/members and visitors of the club.
2.It is the policy of Firhouse Carmel F.C. to do all which is reasonably practical to prevent personal injury and damage to property and to protect all volunteers / members from foreseeable hazards, as well as members of the public when they come into contact with the club.
3. In particular, Firhouse Carmel F.C. has a responsibility to:
3.1. Provide and maintain safe and healthy sporting
conditions, taking into account any statutory
requirements.
3.2. Provide training and instruction to enable volunteers
to perform their duties safely and efficiently.
3.3. Maintain a constant and continuing interest in health
and safety matters by consulting with and involving
members and volunteers when
possible.
4.Firhouse Carmel F.C. Volunteers are bound to co-operate in the operation of this policy by;
4.1 Working safely and efficiently
4.2 Adhering to procedures, jointly agreed on their
behalf, for maintaining a safe environment
4.3 Assisting in the investigation of accidents and
introducing measures to prevent a recurrence.
5. All accidents will be recorded in the accident book, which is
situated within the Committee Room.
Health and Safety Organisational Structure
Executive Committee - responsible for ensuring Firhouse Carmel F.C. is complying with Health and Safety legislation and overall responsibility for providing a healthy and safe sporting environment for Firhouse Carmel F.C. volunteers / members.
Co-ordinator - responsible for reporting to executive committee on issues relating to health, safety and welfare and for keeping the committee informed of legal and social changes relating to health and safety.
Clubhouse Supervisor - (Health and Safety Officer) Overall responsibility for carrying out risk assessments and routine health and safety checks such as liaising with the Committee and volunteers / members and tenants regarding fire drills.
Volunteers - all volunteers are responsible for adhering to a health and safety policy and working in a manner which does not put their own or other people’s health and safety at risk
Firhouse Carmel F.C. tenants - all tenant groups are responsible for adhering to Firhouse Carmel F.C. health and safety policy and working in a manner which does not put their own or other people’s health and safety at risk
Pitch safety
Small Sided Goal Posts MUST be secured prior to each game using the correct equipment. The Goal Post Safety document is available from the Clubhouse.
All damaged posts must be reported to committee and removed from use.
Pitches must be cleared of debris prior to each game
Evacuation procedure:
When the fire bell sounds all volunteers / members and tenants must leave the building via the nearest exit.
All doors must be closed on exit.
People must leave via the nearest exit and proceed to the assembly point which is the park area outside Firhouse Carmel F.C. Clubhouse.
Nobody has the right to enter the building until the all-clear has been given by the Clubhouse Supervisor.
Throughout the evacuation procedure, no-one should take any action which would put themselves or others at risk.
Violence:
If a member of the public enters the Firhouse Carmel F.C. and behaves in an aggressive manner, the police must be contacted immediately and assistance sought from colleagues while waiting for the police to arrive. If a member or volunteer feels threatened because of a violent incident outside, s/he should lock the door and call the police, if necessary.
The same procedure applies for volunteers / members behaving in an aggressive manner.
Any violent incidents will be recorded in the accident book situated with the Clubhouse Supervisor.
Fire:
Fire extinguishers will be installed and maintained in the following positions:
Canteen Area
Committee Room
These will be inspected on a regular basis.
There is a fire blanket situated in the kitchen.
Control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH):
Firhouse Carmel F.C. will strive to ensure that volunteers / members do not come into contact with substances which are hazardous to health in compliance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations
The following steps will be taken to protect volunteers / members:
Where appropriate a harmful substance will be substituted with one which is safer.
Dangerous chemicals will be stored safely and isolated from volunteers except when they are being used.
Firhouse Carmel F.C. will be well ventilated to ensure the circulation of air throughout the building.
Lifting procedures:
Do not jerk or shove the body while lifting as twisting the body would case injury.
Lift in stages - from the floor to the knee and then from the knee to the carrying position.
Hold weights close to the body.
Bend the legs while lifting and keep the back straight.
Grip heavy loads with palms and not fingertips. Do not change grip while carrying.
Do not let your load obstruct your view - make sure the route is clear before you start moving.
If you feel the load is too heavy ask for assistance. Where possible, use trolley to move heavy weights.
Smoking:
A no-smoking policy operates in all parts of the Clubhouse.
It is a breach of the health and safety policy to smoke in any part of the building.
First aid:
The first aid box is located in the Canteen Area & Committee Room.
