Player Screening
Sudden Cardiac Death
Dear Parent Gaurdian,
The Football Association of Ireland has launched a nationwide campaign to
increase the awareness of Sudden Cardiac Death amongst footballers.
The Task Force Report on Sudde Cardiac Death recommended a systematic assessment of those involved in sport & encouraged all participants, aged 14 years or older , engaged in recreational activity, to complete a risk assessment questionnaire.
The FAI Medical Committee is advising all players over the age of 14 (as per the Task Force report) to complete a simple questionnaire.
The Sudden Cardiac Death Screening Questionnaire should be completed by every player and forwarded to their family doctor for evaluation. Further examination and referral may be neccessary where a potential risk exists.
We are all aware of tragedies on the football field from Sudden Cardiac Death. It is hoped that by completing the screening questionnaire, some players with the potential risk for Sudden Cardiac Death can be identified and advised accordingly.
